Jake Abbott is a Clinical Psychologist committed to supporting individuals to overcome challenges and move toward meaningful, sustainable change. He prioritises creating a safe, respectful therapeutic environment where clients feel able to openly explore their experiences, thoughts, and emotions. Jake draws on a range of evidence-based modalities and strategies to support clients to facilitate their own growth and recovery.
Jake will be trading out of the Uniquely You Psychology office, he will be working exclusively with first responders, providing psychological treatment for those exposed to high-risk, high-stress, and potentially traumatic work environments. He has extensive experience working with first responders, including police and other emergency service personnel, and has a strong understanding of the occupational, cultural, and systemic demands associated with frontline roles.
Jake is SIRA-approved to deliver psychological treatment under NSW WorkCover and has experience working within the workers compensation system, including injury management, return-to-work planning, and evidence-based trauma treatment for work-related psychological injuries.
He has previously worked with a broad range of presentations across the lifespan, including young people, families in crisis, and adults experiencing complex mental health concerns. Jake has also taught undergraduate psychology units and regularly presents at conferences and educational events across Australia on trauma, early intervention, and best-practice psychological care.
Jake has a strong clinical interest in trauma and adopts a holistic, trauma-informed approach to treatment, recognising the dynamic and interconnected relationship between physical and psychological health. He works collaboratively with clients to understand how these factors interact, supporting recovery through integrated, client-centred care.
He is particularly passionate about working with first responders and is an EMDR-accredited practitioner, a full member of the EMDR Association of Australia (EMDRAA), and a Consultant in Training. He uses EMDR to support the safe and effective processing of traumatic experiences and to promote long-term psychological wellbeing.
Jake is an independent clinician practising out of the rooms of Uniquely You Psychology.
